Identification of Geographical Origin of Agricultural Products
1. Research & Development
Our target is to develop a credible method for the authenticity control and geographical origin identification of agricultural products. This will provide them special characteristics like high competition abilities and subsequently higher added value (Protective Designation of Origin P.D.O., Protective Geographical Indication P.D.I., e.t.c.). The discrimination of similar agricultural products is based on the determination of stable isotopes ratio. Stable isotopes are of basic structural components of the total biochemical compounds (13C/12C, 15N/14N, 18O/16O, 36S/34S and 2Η/1Η).
2. Installed Infrastructure
System for the determination of stable isotopes ratio, using mass spectrometer (GC-EA-IRMS).
3. Contribution to Agricultural Development
The combination of isotope ratio determination with the ecological conditions of plant growth and physiology parameters could be used for the certification of the geographical origin of plants, animals and products emanate from them.
